How to Create a Draft Observation Note

The Lightning Draft feature lets you collect data even when you're offline or need more time to finish an observation note later.

With just a few steps, you can save your observation as a draft right from the Learning Genie app or website!

Mobile App: Save a Draft Observation

1. Create a portfolio observation
   (Need help? Click here for a guide.)
   
   
2. Add the basic requirements:
   
   
   • Text
     
     
   • Tag
     
     
   • Children

3. Add media — photos, videos, or audio. (Optional) 

4. Instead of tapping the checkmark, tap the “Draft” icon.

5. That’s it! Your observation will be highlighted in pink, confirming it was saved as a draft.

Web Version: Save a Draft Observation

3. Add media — photos, videos, or audio. (Optional) 

4. Instead of clicking “Save,” click the “Save as Draft” button.

5. You’ll see the observation as a Past Incompleted Draft— that means it’s saved!

Important Reminders

• Drafts are saved locally on your device.
  If you switch devices, the draft won’t transfer.
  
  
• Publish your drafts ASAP to avoid losing them due to:
  
  
  • App updates
    
    
  • Device issues (loss, theft, or damage)
    
    

Pro tip: Save often and publish your draft once you're connected to Wi-Fi!
